Hurricane Sandy

Looks like Hurricane Sandy really did a number on the East Coast. I've only seen a few pictures as of last night, but things don't look too good. Thankfully things did not go as bad as some feared- as of this morning only 50 deaths have been reported, which is amazing considering the intensity of the storm.

I have many friends and some family back East. I did hear from my cousin, who lives in Baltimore, who mentioned trees went down on my Aunts property in Bethlehem, PA, but that was the worst for them thankfully. I also heard from a friend in NH, and she will have to replace her fence. I still have not heard from my friends in NY or NJ or DC, so I'm anxious to find out how they are!

Hopefully none of my followers were in the path of Sandy. If you were, praying that you were safe!

Pancreatic Cancer

So, I'm watching Long Island Medium, and the topic of pancreatic cancer comes up. One lady lost her husband to it, and another gentleman lost his brother to the same cancer. Here's the kicker, he himself is battling pancreatic cancer. Seeing Theresa, the medium, was on his bucket list.

He mentions Michael Landon and Patrick Swayze as some others who were diagnosed with the cancer and did not survive. It makes me wonder- is pancreatic cancer one of the worst types of cancer? I need to do more research on it. :o(

I worry about this. A member of my church is battling pancreatic cancer right now. When this gentleman, Robert, mentioned Patrick Swayze, I thought about Ralph. Ralph is a very good looking gentleman in his 60's, who right now is starting to look thin like I remember seeing how Patrick was in his last few months before he died.

Has anyone you know battled pancreatic cancer and survived? I'd like to know.

New news on immigration

If you haven't heard already, the first DACA approvals are going out!  This has to be awesome news for many.  The Immigration Impact newsletter has some great information about that:
Immigrationimpact.com-What early DACA application numbers tell us about the future of the program

I am very interesting in hearing how this progresses.

On a personal note- I normally do not go into politics, but I am personally endorsing having Obama in office for another term. I am not happy with what has happened so far, but I would rather have him in office than Romney- that man spells disaster for immigration, and will make things worse than Obama has.

In Rememberance...

We can not forget how we felt after seeing the images of the Twin towers in ruins, the pentagon on flames, and the smouldering hole in the ground in PA. Take a moment today to pray for peace.

:o( No more Colton Dixon on IDOL

My top IDOL fave was just voted off today. :o(

Here is the video of his goodbye performance. Made me cry a river!!!

He is such a talented guy, down to earth, reaches out to his fans both spiritually and musically. I am convinced that he is destined for an even more meaningful path, and that God has given him this opportunity to share with the world his amazing musical talent and to also share with the world what love for God can do for you.

I can't wait to see where he goes with his career and I can't wait to purchase his first album! ;o)

(maybe if I'm lucky I will be able to see him in the Summer IDOL Tour!)

Sad Anniversary today...

March 31, 1995 was a sad day indeed.

That was the day we lost an upcoming star, who was already a star outside of the US, but just starting to make her music more known by entering the English music industry.  Although she was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, and truly spoke no Spanish until she started singing, she did not start her musical career well known in the US.

Selena Quintanilla Perez was born April 16, 1971 and was murdered March 31, 1995

I first heard her 2 "crossover" songs I could fall in love  and  Dreaming of you on the radio in the fall of 1995. I fell in love with her voice, and promptly went out and got her cd, not even knowing about what had happened to her just a few months before. I didn't hear about her death until the one year anniversary was being celebrated! I was so devastated cause I absolutely adored her music!!!

To be honest with you, I was just barely starting my senior year of high school when I started listening to her. I had already been taking Spanish classes in high school, but I truly started learning when I started both listening to her songs and trying to sing them, as well as start working in a restaurant with predominately Spanish speaking workers.  The first song I actually learned to sing in Spanish was Selena's Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. :o)

I AM SO SAD right now....

I just still cannot believe that 17 years ago she was murdered heartlessly... She was such a beautiful person, inside AND out, had a voice that everyone loved!!! She never had a chance to show the world her full potential. She was only 23 years old. She had a music career that was just starting to bloom, a fashion line just starting to gain popularity, a husband and the goal to have a family... :'(

This picture was taken at the Houston Astrodome in February of 1995- her last live concert.
